Artist's Comments

Just something that's been on my mind recently. It's always sad when a good cartoon dog drawing artist decides to make their art more "realistic" by adding a big, detailed, anatomically incorrect dog penis on their males. I mean, really? You're drawing Baltos. Instead of spending your time looking at dog penises, why not spend your time referencing anatomy? Doggie porn does not equal "realistic."

And if you really want to get hired as a cartoonist/animator/illustrator for some cartoon canine story... having cute cartoon dogs with disturbing genitals will not help your cause.

And before I get people screaming "ITS JUST NATURE!!!!"... sorry man, in a world where twig-legged technicolor wolfs listen to ipods tucked in their Hot Topic armwarmers, the "don't blame me for being realistic" argument is pretty flimsy.

EDIT: Okay to clarify my point:

On relatively realistic art where the whole character is evenly detailed and more or less resembles a real animal, go ahead and add your dog penis on there. Probably no one will even notice unless they're looking for it. See this: [link]

On your cartoony, heavily stylized dogs that bear little resemblance to real animals, a dog dick looks out of place. Would this character greatly benefit from being drawn with junk? [link]

98% of teens does or has tried copy and pasting stupid chain letters into their signature. If you are the 2% who hasn't, copy and paste this into your signature.

what people are doing that :o omg lol

No one in particular it to blame for this. xP It's just a general complaint I have about the animal drawing community.
:iconsinisterabbit:
i didnt know some animal artist do that. :I

Haha, I was JUST about to make a parody of that! But I admit it'd be pretty nasty to draw... yech.
:iconemeraldbird:
L o fucking l. Very very true. Awesome stamp you got there.

This is so true >_> This reminds me of how much my professors preach finding your own style and learning anatomy. The day people stop ripping off famous styles and acting like they're something amazing because they can draw in Balto or Lion King or Naruto or *goes on and on listing all the styles that she's seen get ripped* is the day that I'll die of shock. I'll be so happy my heart will just stop 8)

But yes. I completely agree. Adding a penis does not make your doggy any more realistic and does not make you cool. I take dogs that are castrated, cartoony, and drawn in a unique style over Balto-sad-attempts-at-being-"realistic" any day. And if you have to add unnecessary bodyparts to your dogs, or ANY animal at that rate, at least make it fit the style.

Yeah... some of them are saying "Well it's so you can tell they are male!"... but if you can't tell that their character is male without seeing its penis, I think they need to work on developing their art more.

Really... it's just plain weird to see cute Disney or Balto dogs and then you look closer and there's something nasty on their tummy... If they want to move toward being more realistic, the first step is to learn more about anatomy, not add genitals.

Oddly enough, the same people who draw dog penises are often against yiff and/or porn in general. Double standards much?
