It was incredible, man! Whatever I was expecting from my previous "anime convention" experiences--it blew them all out of the water.
First of all, Otakon was less an 'anime convention' then a general gathering of geeks and odd people of all types. Tons of nerds of various sorts converged in this single gigantic convention center for an awesome weekend of socializing with others of similar, obscure interests. For a lot of people it seemed to be more an excuse to geek out and dress up in a fun costume then anything, ant let me tell you, that was something that was totally welcome and refreshing to me after living in the uncultured sticks for so long.
Nyoko and I, of course, did our Pigmask cosplays from Mother 3. I'd fully expected to maybe meet 10 people at most who 'got it'--but for the first day especially, we could barely walk ten feet without being stopped for photos. @_@ A lot of people congratulated us on doing such obscure characters, Mother fans yelled references at us as we passed, fans and non-fans alike stopped us to take pictures. We even met a bunch of other Mother cosplayers--more then I could count, actually. Granted, a lot of them were Nesses, and a lot of them were "Brawl Nesses" (in other words, people who had never played the game or anything but only dressed up as him because he was in the Smash Bros games...) but we met some really awesome people over that weekend, and even had a chance for a Mother-themed photoshoot with on Friday.
I kinda wish I'd collected a couple more people's online contacts.

It wasn't until Sunday that I thought to do it... *fails* If any of you awesome people who chatted with the Pork Army at Otakon stumble across this... I'd like to hear from you. xP
I actually didn't get a lot of 'con stuff' done. xD Someday, I'm actually going to go to panels and buy things, but this time around I had enough fun meeting people, wandering around lost, taking helmets off, putting them on again 15 seconds later to have my picture taken, staring wide-eyed at the airplane hanger-sized Dealer's room, and gawking at all the even more amazing costumes, and reading all the witty geek-humor T-shirts. All I bought was a plush, a Otakon 2009 shirt, a FMA book that had yet to reach my local bookstore, and some Chimbley merchandise from

after finally finding him in the Artist's Alley just before I completely ran out of money. xP Next time I'll be sure to bring more cash too... haha.
This convention made all the other ones I've been to so far look like nothing in comparison. I'm going back next year without a doubt.

Man I am so tired. XP I'll be looking forward to sleeping in my own bed tonight--the hotel ones were so uncomfortable.
I've got a lot of stuff to work on now that the convention and costumes are out of the way--time to get back on track with my normal life. xP I'll try to answer comments and finish up the stuff (commissions and that 30k Kiriban--sorry for the lateness!) I owe soon. As well as post pictures of our costumes from the convention. The one problem with this is that my dad who helped drive Nyoko and I to the convention has taken her computer away for virus clean-up--I thought I'd mostly fixed things but she had some sort of awful backdoor trojan thing that needs srs fixing. So she'll be sharing my comp for a week or two until he can bring her computer back.
Anyway, I'm too punchy to be typing now so I should probably shut up. xD Aaand NoScript is complaining about trying to preview this journal. I don't feel like playing with it at the moment so you'll have to deal with typos if they're here. Sorry!
