I'm now only 500 pageviews away from my 30k. I wasn't sure about offering a kiriban this time but I might as well. Please don't try to 'shop it, I have an eye for these things.
Also, I'm now only 10k pageviews away from what I used to consider a ' popular person '. Seeing as how I've been here 3 years though, I guess 10k a year isn't exactly popular.
ANYWAY. I know I've been kinda... less than productive lately. Stuff's been going on. <insert excuses here> School, trying to get a job, other interests, et cetra.</excuses>
I've been trying to work on WANTED. No, really. I did try. I eventually came to the conclusion that I'm not exactly cut out to be a webcomicist. I'm bad with deadlines, consistency, and dedication, and my style just changes too damn fast. I'm not at a point where I'm really set in my style, or my coloring, or my lineart, or anything really. I'm still learning as far as anatomy goes. So I've decided on this. I can either nix the project for now, maybe doing it in written format or trying again in a few years when my art is a little more stable. Or I can continue it in a casual way, focusing more on storytelling and experimentation then consistency and quality.
The ideal webcomicist from my view is someone who's not striving for perfection. Over working things with too much effort results in abandoned projects and multiple-month wait times between pages. (sound familiar?)
Any case, I have a few pieces to submit and a few to work on. I've been doing a few casual, quick commissions for the fun of it, just to kind of get my name out there. I'm going to dump some of them on here once I find time to get them all together. I've also had a number of ideas for 1-page comics, quick little pictures just for fun, and school notebook doodles, which I'll see about posting.
Re DA viruses: I'm not getting the fake antivirus redirect anymore, and my virus programs turned up nothing. I think I managed to kill it before it got rooted in my computer through the combined efforts of my various antivirus software. I've been scanning every day since then and DA doesn't appear to have installed anything else after that. I'd still be careful though; if you get any suspicious ads, popups, or the like, make sure to scan with everything you have. Also, don't leave a window with DA open unattended, as the ads cycle every couple minutes and the chance that you'll get a virus is much higher that way.
Devious Comments
I'm also always in the comic for the storytelling. The art's just what hooks the reader; the story's what they stay for. Ya know?
But it's up to you, I think the webcomic should be for fun, and if you're not enjoying it, then it's better to just stop it in its tracks. If you're not having fun making the pages, chances are your readers aren't having fun reading them.
Formality doesn't exactly make a comic feel welcoming.
And congrats on your 30K, too! You deserve it, probably more when you mention the 3 year thing. But 10K's still more than I make.
I almost forget, congratz on the 30k.

The storyline will happen one way or another. I've had this story for... years. I definitely want to put it out there, but the current format of the comic is proving a bit difficult to keep up with.

What I will say though, is yeah, webcomics aren't about being the prettiest comic out there, but then again, comics in general shouldn't only be able the art. What annoys me about most artists here on dA who suddenly decide they want to do a comic is they concentrate on making it pretty instead of concentrating on making sure the story was good, and making sure the story and the artwork go hand in hand (I've read through comics before that have terrible artwork, but because they use storytelling methods, and they have an engaging storyline, it didn't really matter). I think you have the right idea, though. When it comes to doing a webcomic, the style you use for it should be a style that can be easily done while still looking okay, during the amount of time you spend making it. If you don't feel you're ready to tackle as big a project as WANTED, I recommend doing little projects to help train yourself and practice for when you feel you're finally ready.
